An access log is a text file which contains an extensive report on all of the files accessed by your website visitors. All the files that were requested in one way or another shall be included, so if you have a PHP script app and a site visitor opens just the home page, for instance, you may find plenty of files inside the log. This is because there are things on the home page that are embedded - parts of other Internet pages, images, etcetera. All of these files will be listed within the access log, so you can get a full picture of the way your Internet site works. The data is in plain text format, so the logs are sometimes referred to as "raw data" too. An access log shows the name of every requested file, the path to it, the date it was accessed, in addition to the user’s IP address, web browser and OS. More information, such as the referrer Internet site, is typically included too. A log file could be processed by various desktop apps for statistical purposes as an addition to the web statistics provided by your website hosting server.
Access Log Manager in Shared Web Hosting
Our in-house built Hepsia CP includes a section focused on various logs and the access logs are among them. Once you sign in to your shared web hosting account and navigate to this section, you'll find a list of all the domains and subdomains you have. All it takes to allow the generation of access logs is to press a button that will be available next to each and every domain/subdomain. In case the option is active, you will see a download link together with the file size so far, so you'll be able to save the file to your laptop or computer and examine it or process it with some application. Enabling or disabling the logs takes effect right away, so if you don't need one, you can stop it with just a mouse click from the same section of the CP. You shall still have the ability to access the already created content by simply clicking on the Download link.
Access Log Manager in Semi-dedicated Hosting
When you have a semi-dedicated server account with our company, it shall not take more than a few clicks to trigger the generation of access logs by our system if you need them. The function can be permitted through the Hepsia web hosting Control Panel and this can be done separately for each and every domain or subdomain you have within your account. Whenever you log in and go to the Access/Error Logs section of the Control Panel, you'll see a list of all the hostnames with an On/Off button next to each of them. One click will enable the log generation and another one shall disable it, so you can control this function with great simplicity. A Download link inside the same section will permit you to save the created content as a text file, that you could then use on your notebook or computer. Even if the logs are deactivated, you'll still be able to download the data which has been previously generated.
